Found a new caterpillar today on the cabbage. I wondered if it could be a later instar of the Cabbage White Butterfly so I went to the internet to do some research. I found out that it is actually the caterpillar for a moth.

My Yard ~ American Lady Caterpillars
Jenny & I have been working hard with weeding the gardens, planting new flowers and mulching with salt marsh hay the past few days. Salt marsh hay is a great mulch as it doesn't contain seed heads and helps to keep the weeds down & the soil moist after watering. Today, while weeding in the back, Jenny found 6 American Lady caterpillars on the Pussytoes she planted. We are excited as this is a first ever American Lady caterpillar for us and #4 caterpillar all total in the yard.

My Yard ~ Overwintering Black Swallowtail Butterflies
We had 15 overwintering Black Swallowtail chrysalis in my yard. We have carefully kept an eye on them to see if the will enclose. So far we have had 12 enclose with 3 more to go. One of the 12 I fund on the ground with crumpled wings that apparently never got pumped up correctly. Here is one of them on catmint.
