March Donation Quilts for Wrap-A-Smile

 Four more donations quilts made for Wrap-A-Smile.  The requested size for babies is 40X48 and these tops are at least 40" wide though some are up to 50" long.  These quilts were easy to make using 10" from layer cakes I was gifted from another quilter before her death.

Donation Quilts ~ "Omaha" Block

My online quilting group is having anther retreat next summer.  This retreat will be in Omaha, NE in June.  One of the members picks a block out that is simple to piece but when combined with others will look good in scrap quilts.  This years block is actually part similar to a 1/4 of the disappearing 9 patch design.  Last week I cut out all the parts so I could make the blocks and out some tops together. So far I have made 5 tops and plan a few more.  These ops bring my total to 36 donation quilts for Wrap-A-Smile this year.  Next step to get the tops quilted & bound.

Sunshine Quilting

So many members of Sunshine quilters have now challenged themselves to make a block per day for each day of Lent.  That would be 43 blocks in total and great for more scrappy quilts so I decided that I am up for this challenge.  But to add a twist I think I am also going to make a quilt top each weekend of Lent which means 6 quilt tops.  This weekend's top was fun to put together and will be great for either a boy or a girl.

Happy New Year

I had thought that I might go out birding on New Year's Day with a group from the CMBO but the winds are blowing at 35+ MPH and the temperatures are in the high 20's so I decided I'd wait for my first birding trip of the year. Sad to say but I am a more fair weather birder.
I love to watch the Rose Bowl Parade so I relaxed while doing that.  The floats are just so incredible.
I went out to check my Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars and they are still hanging on to the dill.
Then I spent the rest of the day putting a quilt top together.  When I was going through some of my stash I found 15 Churn Dash blocks I'd made years ago.  I decided on a layout for 12 blocks, pieced them together and added a scrappy border.   Just the right size quilt for Wrap-A-Smile.

Here's the last quilt I am quilting for 2012.  It's a top I put together this fall.  Love the colors.  It will probably be donated to Wrap-A-Smile but I haven't made a final decision yet.

Sunshine Quilting - Wrap-A-Smile Quilts

Quilting for Wrap-A-Smile is my preferred charity project that I have worked with for years.  I am a member of an online quilting group called Sunshine Quilters. Every second Sunday of each month we have a quilting bee where we work together on quilting projects.  Now we aren't really together as we are all in our own homes which are spread throughout the States but we are all together in spirit as we sew for the children. This month I did some first Sunday quilting by quilting 2 tops I had pieced in October.  They are pictured here. The first features frogs and the second features skateboards. These quilts would be especially good for a little boy.
