I was out working in the yard today and saw a Fritillary that kept moving in & out of my sights. Finally, it settled enough to see it was a Variegated Fritillary and she was laying eggs on the garden pansies I plant every year for her. I baby them along in the heat because that's one of their host plants. She placed a good number of eggs between the front & yard pansies. Of course, that meant I needed to play around with my camera and get pictures of the eggs.

Lots of good butterflies here. Good numbers of Variegated Fritillaries plus I found a VF chrysalis out by the driveway. it's really gorgeous. Also, found Juniper Hairstreaks which I never expected to find. There is lots of variations of color on the wings.

Fun day ~ Long, long lunch with friends I worked with at my first nursing job at Delaware County Memorial Hospital 50 years ago. After lunch, some time in my garden watching birds & butterflies. Glad to see a late migrating Ruby-throated hummingbird.

| On Thursday, a Fiery finally stopped by my place. It was 9 weeks later than when seen 2022. |
At Wolf's Hollow in Atglen yesterday, I saw 14 species of butterflies. Here are images of some of them. Best butterflies were Ocola & Fiery, both southern strays. I can't find any other records of Ocola being seen there. It was sunny, low to mid 80's with winds 5-8 MPH. So nice to see after a week of drab, rainy weather.
