Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

Late summer and early fall is the greatest time of the year to see the most Ruby-throated Hummingbirds as they are migrating through our area on their way south.  Here are some pictures I have taken over the past month.  Last date one seen this year was 10/6 and in 2023 the latest date I saw one in my yard was on 10/13th.

 

Wolf's Hollow County Park - Butterflies & Birds

I decided to go over to Wolf's Hollow to see how the butterflies were coming along.  I was hoping for a fair number of species but only found 2 species - Peck's & Least.  I did see 8 species of birds but one species was about 20 Cedar Waxwings feeding on  Serviceberries.  So much fun to watch! I also spotted a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird by a Tulip Poplar.

I've been seeing hummingbirds every day on my salvia's.  It's fun to see them.

My Yard ~ Giant Swallowtail

 Wow, wow, Wow! I am excited! My eyes spied a worn Eastern Giant Swallowtail this afternoon while I was out working in the garden. I ran inside to get my camera. It's still here and is a female. I have rue, so it would be great if she's fertile and lays some eggs. New yard butterfly #36 and #31st species for 2023.
