Today's installment of the Red-spotted Purple's butterfly journey. First, 2 pictures from 4/19 where one caterpillar has transformed into a chrysalis and the other caterpillar is still eating. Next 2 pictures taken on 4/20 chrysalis on day 2 and is more black in color with #2 caterpillar in "J" position ready to transform to a chrysalis. Should have 2 butterflies in 10 to 14 days. Excited!
More wildflowers from Shenk's Ferry Wildlife Preserve where I met Kim, with whom I have lots in common - an avid birders who loves butterflies also. Great to have company along the trail while enjoying the surroundings. Saw a number of Eastern Comma's, Cabbage Whites, a Red Admiral and a duskywing. Didn't get to see the Zebra Swallowtails often seen along the trail.
