My Yard ~ Ruby-throated Hummingbirds & Ruby-crowned Kinglet

This fall has been a dismal fall for the butterflies but great for the birds.  I finally got the seed feeders out last week because there were so many birds here.  I have late Ruby-throated Hummingbirds here so have refreshed the nectar feeders again.  The hummer ignores the feeders in favor of the Mexican Sage though sad to say the winds this fall have really made a mess of the sage.  I also have Ruby-crowned Kinglets here feeding before they migrate further South.

These are 2 other butterfly species that are normally here in good numbers but have been in short supply this year.  Their populations have picked up the the past two weeks.

My Yard ~ Common Buckeye Butterfly

The Common Buckeye has always been a frequent butterfly in the yard until this year.  No known reason why but so many of the butterflies I usually have seen in past seasons on a daily basis and many times more than 5 of each species just haven't been here this year.  No, towards the end of the season the Common Buckeye numbers have increased.

Even though very worn, this Common Buckeye is still flying and chasing other butterflies.
