Cox Hall Creek WMA ~ American Goldfinch

Another great walk at Cox Hall Creek Management Area gave me looks at 3 new life birds in addition to this American Goldfinch.  The new life birds according to eBird are Blue-headed Vireo, Veery and Bank Swallow though I must say I am pretty sure I saw a Veery last fall with Mike but mist not have added it into eBird at that time..

Heislerville WMA ~ Shorebirds begin to build

Springtime brings thoughts of shorebird migration to my mind.  That brings Heislerville to mind so a trip up to Cumberland County was in order.  There was still some ducks around including Northern Shovelers, Blue and Green-winged Teal, Mallard's and Black Ducks.  There were Snowy and Great Egrets along with Double Crested Cormorants plus both species of Yellow Legs.  A highlights was a large flock of Glossy and White-faced Ibis feeding alongside of Short-billed Dowitchers. I saw
Black-bellied Plovers, Least Sandpipers and Dunlin and along the beach were Red-winged Blackbirds galore.  Forester's Tern have returned and were fishing in the first impoundment.  No Black Skimmers yet which is a bird I love to see feed along the waters.
