Beth's Patch ~ Long-tailed Skipper

One of my favorite skipper species is the Long-tailed Skipper.  It's a southern migrant that arrives here in September.  My first one showed up Labor Day weekend this year.  We've had a number of Long-tails here since that time.  Their host plants are legumes,  They normally have  2 tails but they can be seen with just one tail or no tails as in the last two pictures.  The skippers are always moving and stay only seconds to nectar, always being in motion so it's hard to get good pictures of them.   Here are some of my favorite images from the past few days.
