China - February 7th -the Great Wall

Our plan was to go out to the Great Wall on Sunday leaving fairly early to travel by tour bus several hours to a better area of the Wall but Saturday evening's snow meant changing plans to go to a part of the Wall that is closer to the city. No matter the Wall was AWESOME! We traveled by motor couch with about 24 people stopping first at the site of the burial tombs of several of the emperors. While driving we were able to look at the windows at the local sights and see some of the work the government had done in planting trees along the roadways. The tombs to me were just ok and I was really interested in getting to and climbing along the Great Wall. The snow made it slippery in parts but fun was had by all of us. I would love to climb some of the other sections in better weather but that will probably remain just a dream. We found for climbing that the steps started out one at a time but very quickly you are climbing 3 to 5 blocks per step. That makes it very steep to climb. There was a railing that is too low to use in climbing up but boy is it a lifesaver on the way down. The section we climbed was pretty steep. Leslie, Michelle & I climbed up the highest.
